Being professional online

This post has been long overdue since I faced a lot of unprofessional behaviour online from another internet user towards the end of 2012. Considering the career path they have chosen, their attitude was appalling.

The tweets were pathetic. And when I say pathetic I mean it. I'd Instagram a picture of my foundation or my new makeup brushes and they'd tweet how they didn't need to wear foundation, and they didn't see why girls painted their faces on. They'd try and put me down because of the degree I do, but I laughed it off with all my friends. At the end of the day, it's like my friend Sam said: 'You know you're famous when you have a stalker.'

My Mum kept on at me to protect my tweets and make my Instagram private, but because of my blog and the fact I'm trying to get myself out there on the internet and share my life, it seemed backwards. At the end of the day, I've got nothing to hide, and if said person can not handle what I do in my life that's their problem.

Really, all us bloggers are is show offs, 'look at my new beauty products' 'look at what I bought', but some people just can't help but be green with envy. Negative comments is something I think every blogger faces, it's definitely made my skin thicker than it already was.

I just wanted to share my online morals that I've tried to stick to throughout the whole thing. I think they apply to being online generally, not just in my situation.

Don't pick fights and don't tweet whilst you're drunk - it's not attractive or professional. Although Twitter is meant to be spur-of-the-moment, you should still work out what you want to say and how you want to look.

Every image you upload says something about you. So avoid photos being uploaded to the internet that of you drunk, it could cost you a job.

There's nothing worse than you not being authentic online. Life isn't 24/7 glam and it's okay to show that, and by sharing your quirks and details you connect better with others.

I was told by a friend 'If someone is trying to bring you down, it only means you are above them'. Tell yourself that whenever somebody feels the need to have a go at you.

Especially all you bloggers. Don't tweet one day and not for another week. People are nosey, that's why we share our lives online with each other.

  1. I think that some people are just so bitter and depressed with their own lives they feel the need to attempt to put others down. I guess the easiest thing we can do is to just pity them and remember to be the better person, which you clearly are, and have proven through this post!

  3. I agree with everything you've written! Way to take the high road and just laugh off that person's dissing. They're definitely just jealous.

  4. This is so true. I have seen so many people myself embarassing themselves on the internet and therefore losing a job or getting in serious trouble. Following you now, maybe you would like to have a look at my blog as I just started it :)

  5. I completely agree. Some people just go out looking to pick fights.

  6. I love this post. It amazes me the hate that people put upon others. If some folks would put half as much energy into something positive instead of the negative...this world would be a lot better off. But keep positive girl...if you love doing something...don't let people discourage you from achieving your dreams. ♥

Over time, the ones who are really here to be professional bloggers will outshine the drunkies. ;)

  11. Love this and it's so true, people are so inconsiderate and have literally nothing better to do, your blog is fabulous and what anyone says to you otherwise is jealousy like you said! Just because you put time and effort into creating something that others will like to read and take an interest too isn't something for people to slam their every negative thought into! The sayings true "if you haven't got anything to say, don't say it at all!" Anyway, I like your blog and I love this post, so I intend to follow you continue to read your posts!

  13. I feel bad for that person. I don't have time to follow people I *don't* like and dis them. I hardly have time to keep up with all the bloggers I love and leave positive feedback! Geez... And, I agree: with how public our lives all are nowadays, we cannot afford to put things out there that a future employer would look at. Silliness...
