The Sunday Post: Recent beauty purchases

Avon Luck For Her perfume

I'm no beauty guru but I do love a good scroll through some beauty blogs every once in a while. I love seeing the newest releases and I'm most definitely no brand snob. Sure my Origins moisturiser cost over £30, but some of my favourite lipsticks are Avon, which may I just say is extremely underestimated as a brand.

Most of these are picked up on recommendations, especially the Revlon blush and Origins moisturiser - which smells like dark chocolate orange. I went into Boots intending on picking up either the Benefit Erase Paste or Bo-ing concealer, but the lady on the counter said I didn't need either since they are both heavy duty and recommended the Fakeup concealer instead.

I definitely think this stash will keep me going until we get into the colder season.

A bright, a dark and a natural.

When it comes to lipsticks, for me there's three essentials. I don't really have a comfort zone when it comes to lipsticks, I own bright reds, bright pinks, oranges, peaches. I just think the right shade lipstick can complete an outfit. I'm by no means a MAC snob, in fact some of my favourite lipsticks are from the high street but for the purpose of this post I've featured only MAC. Let's call it the bright, dark and natural MAC edition.

My 'bright' is Morange which is an amplified creme finish. When I bought this is Bloomingdales the girl on the counter said it was such a good choice since the colour suited everyone. I was too scared to wear it for so long but once I did I loved it. It's very pigmented and it's usually opaque in a few swipes and so so bright! If this were a person it would be a party animal.

A dark vampy colour is my go to during winter for any parties or nights out. Mine is Dark Side which again is amplified creme finish. I don't favour this finish over the others but I do like an opaque finish which you can guarantee from the amplified creme lipsticks.

Pink Plaid has quickly become a shade I'm reaching for quite a lot since I've been doing overtime. It's a perfect natural shade that's so easy to wear everyday. I find that the matte finish drys on the lips giving it good staying power and when it does fade half way through my shift I just top it with a bit of gloss.

Avon Mega Effects Mascara

Avon Mega Effects Mascara*

Can we start by promising not to laugh at my awful expression whilst demonstrating how this mascara is applied? When I was given this in the little box my first impression was that it was a nail polish in the box. When I pulled out a mascara I was even more confused.

Let's start by talking about the applicator. The bristles are much fuller and cover a bigger area making it quicker to apply and any clumps are easily combed through. Because the formula is more watery than other Avon mascaras it is much more buildable and I've found it lasts much longer without drying out.
The brush handle bends making it easier to reach both top and bottom lashes. To get it out of the container you have to wiggle the handle a little and when reinserted you have to make sure you hear the click to save it from drying out.

The Mega Effects mascara has been patented to Avon for two years, meaning nobody else will be able to release the same in that time. Whether it will take off after that or just be a gimmick who knows. I personally love it and think it does it's job really well. It takes a little getting used to and admittedly did end up with mascara all over my lids on my first use but we're best friends now and work together like a dream. The mascara will be available to buy around August time from your local Avon rep. Will you be trying this?
